Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)
What is FUT?
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) involves removing a strip of skin from the donor area, usually the back of the scalp, where hair is denser. The strip is then dissected into individual follicular units under a microscope and transplanted into the recipient area.
Benefits of FUT
High Graft Yield: FUT typically yields a higher number of grafts in a single session compared to FUE, making it suitable for patients needing extensive coverage.
Cost-Effective: Generally, FUT can be more cost-effective than FUE due to the efficiency of extracting multiple grafts at once.
Shorter Procedure Time: The procedure can be quicker since a large number of grafts are harvested in one go.
Considerations for FUT
Linear Scar: FUT leaves a linear scar at the donor site, which may be visible if you prefer very short hairstyles.
Longer Recovery: The recovery period may be slightly longer due to the nature of the strip removal.
Post-Surgery Discomfort: There might be more discomfort and tightness in the donor area after the procedure.
